In this section, find nine different Assignment Guides that can support the integration of DHSS assignments into your pedagogical\u00a0repertoire.<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

(2009). \u201cWhat\u2019s Wrong With Writing Essays<\/a>.\u201d SampleReality,\u00a0<\/span>paras. 6 & 7.<\/span><\/div>\r\nThe following Assignment Guides\u00a0<\/b>were envisioned\u00a0to replace traditional writing assignments such as essays.<\/b>\u00a0While a DHSS assignment may not seem to do the same work as an essay,\u00a0Digital Humanitist Mark Sample cautions that \u201cthe student essay has come to stand in for all the research, dialogue, revision, and work that professional scholars engage in,\" and that this does not encapsulate the full breadth and depth of the work academics can, have, and should be doing. Sample reminds us that \"the word text<\/em>, derives from the Latin textus<\/em>, meaning that which is woven, strands of different material intertwined together<\/strong>.\" In his teaching practice,\u00a0 he states that he is \"moving away from asking students to write toward asking them to weave. To build, to fabricate, to design<\/strong>\" (Sample, 2009, paras. 6 & 7). This vision for a complex and integrated piece of work is similar to what Ng (2015) has called a \u201creflexive remix\" (p. 221) and what\u00a0Dr. Amanda Starling Gould<\/a>\u00a0called a \u201c(re)mediated element\u201d in a \u201ctransmedia essay<\/a>\u201d. <\/span>\r\n

DHSS assignments are thus not like essays. They can do more. DHSS assignments can develop a range of innovations and explorations with course content that linear essays cannot achieve. <\/b><\/p>\r\n

Digital tools and technologies invite a <\/b>woven remix<\/em> of students' ideas in ways that can demonstrate critical and creative learning with materials in ways that experientially activate<\/span> <\/em><\/a>your students' learning\u00a0of content.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\r\n
