This Instructor's Guide is split into three sections: Theory<\/a>, Practice<\/a>, and Assignment Guides<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n

In the Theory<\/a> section<\/strong>, we've provided an introduction to DHSS in your classroom<\/a>, a description of the project<\/a> that contributed to this Guide, an outline of the pedagogical commitments<\/a> that frame this work, and other resources<\/a> and readings<\/a> to support further study of DHSS.<\/p>\r\n

In the Practice<\/a> section<\/strong>, we've identified six steps for incorporating DHSS into your teaching practice:\u00a0<\/strong>Choosing an\u00a0 assignment<\/a>,\u00a0selecting appropriate materials<\/a>, exploring examples<\/a>\u00a0with your students, providing clear expectations<\/a>, engaging<\/a> in the work, and assessing<\/a> final products. In this section there is also a list of DHSS tools<\/a> that may be helpful for your practice and an essay<\/a> by historian Denise Challenger reflecting on using DHSS into non-DHSS course.<\/p>\r\n

In our Assignment Guides<\/a> section<\/strong>, we've provided nine unique Assignment Guides for different DHSS assignments. These written are in a narrative, rather than didactic style, to introduce assignments or activities, such as creating an archive<\/a>,\u00a0exhibit<\/a>, oral history digital story<\/a>, metadata<\/a>, map of primary sources<\/a>, proof of an argument<\/a>, transcribed and visualized document<\/a>, or a\u00a0historical<\/a> or\u00a0public education<\/a>-style image analysis. In this section we have also provided links to other DHSS assignments<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

To navigate this Pressbook<\/strong>, you can read linearly by clicking the arrows to the right or you can click \u201cContents\u201d on the top left of each page to skip around to the areas that best suit your needs.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
